Spiral Stairs

Today we leave the Ayer Mill clock tower behind and move on to the Wannalancit Mill in Lowell, MA.  Originally called the Suffolk Mill, it was completed in 1831, and was a cotton textile mill for much of it’s early history.  Today the mill has been refurbished, renamed to the Wannalancit Mill, and is home to the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, as well as various commercial businesses.

Although the mill has been renovated to modern standards, the owners were awesome enough to leave the stairways in their original state.  Bob Lussier and I had the opportunity to photograph them recently, and spent several hours exploring their old-world goodness.  This was one of the “gimme” shots I had to take, but I also added a little bit of abstract to it by including a lot of the back of the railing.   These stairs were really fun to photograph, and I’ll share more images in future posts.

Have a great weekend.
