Everett Stairs

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an image of a stairway in the mills, and today seemed as good a day as any to post one.  So I’m dipping into the archives for a shot of one of the many beautiful stairways at the Everett Mill in Lawrence.

These stairways can be very challenging to shoot with their tight quarters, and even with an ultra-wide, it can be hard to get everything in that you want.  In addition, ultra-wides can also introduce a lot of distortion, especially where there are lots of converging vertical and horizontal lines.  In this shot, I worked to keep the main vertical line straight to anchor the image, and let the rest fall where it may.

Really nice job with balancing the light and shadows Steven. Nicely composed too.

There is something mysterious about these stairway shots. The brickwork and shadow plays works so nicely here.
